In November of 2011 an urgent e-mail went out from GPA that 47 greyhounds were rescued from a barn near Kansas City. The man had been taking them off the track, had run out of money to feed them, and foster homes were needed immediately. When a car drove up our driveway, a skinny, scared and tired beautiful red greyhound got out and, even though we were not planning on having another grey adopt us after having lost Bestow and Mystery, the foster "failed" in about 2 minutes and she had us. All 45 pounds(skinny even for a petite girl). Flying Red Warp moved in.
Fed on a raw diet, her weight came up to 60 pounds within a few months. A little buddy named Pearl, a six pound Chinese Crested, became her best friend. Races were held occasionally with Pearl getting a large head start, but still no contest. Warpsie, as she came to be known, was a great racer, placing first or second in almost half of her 130 races. She never lost that joy and desire to run, but the walks with Pearl on the bike trail and through town in Bangor were her happiest times. Voicing her displeasure at how long it took to get there became a welcome sound of her happiness.
Warp served a an ambassador at the monthly Meet and Greets at Petco for over 2 years of her short time with us. We think a few hounds were adopted due to her good work
Warpsie came to us at the age of 10 years and crossed the rainbow bridge with dignity and grace at 13 1/2 years of age. It was the shortest 3 1/2 years of our lives. Keep running, baby
