Roo was a senior rescue dachshund my wife and I found 3 1/2 years ago, and he became such an important member to our family. He was between 10-12 years old, had no teeth, was completely deaf, and he still had so much life in him. That little guy had us wrapped around his little flipper like paws (we called him "Otterpaws" as a nickname because of the shape of his feet) like if he wanted attention, he would roll onto his side and wave his foot at you. He was bossy and would grumble about everything, and he had a schedule for food, bedtime, and naptime. There were a lot of naps. I left for military duties and that guy was the perfect companion for my wife while she finished her Master's. She was super busy and all he needed was a lap to sleep on, so they bonded deeply.
The adoption advertisement had him in a bow tie and we stuck with that as he looked so adorable. He loved his old man style sweaters, sunbathing (we called him a baked sausage) and just wandering around in grass. He preferred to be an only child, but he tolerated other pets when he had to. Ween (short for weenie) didn't like kisses, but he loved being cuddled, and he was very meticulous about building his blanket nests.
We miss that cantankerous old man and his ornery personality. He was the best cuddler, and despite being old, he strangely smelled like a puppy.
