17 years ago, you walked into my life.... tonight as I cradled you in my arms, you took your final breath as you snuggled into me.
The long eared, clumsy puppy that no one picked 17 years ago. I picked you, adored you and loved you.
It was you that held all my secrets. When the heartache became to much it was your body I covered in tears, as I screamed into my pillow, when my Dad died, it was you that snuggled me and licked away my tears. It was you that never left my side after heart attacks, it was you that snuggled me after the drip of death and my bones hurt, and I tossed my cookies in the Trashcan.
When you had seizures and wasn't breathing, I breathed life back into your lungs. At 4 am those morning when you were having trouble breathing, I sat and held your face in the face mask to get the breathing treatment. When you lost your appetite, I chewed your food and hand fed you. Your love never wavered, never failed me, and you never withheld. You've loved babies as they entered our family, even when they pulled your ears and tail.
When I saw you getting weak, I told you as I massaged your sore body, when you got to tired to let me know. You never did.... I believe that you wanted to stay as much as I wanted you to. We both knew... the past couple of weeks you were extra clingy. I knew it was close, you did too. We both fought to soak up enough from each, fearing the pain of letting go, ever so close.
You knew it was your last ride, I was still hoping. Once again I covered your frail body in tears, and once again you snuggled in and licked away my tears.
Run free my Love! Heathy, your sight restored, your hearing restored, no longer racked with the pain of aging.
Wait for me..... I can't wait to hold you in my arms again whole, happy, and healthy!
