Earnie was the beloved Cocker Spaniel of Carl and Beverly. He entered our life on 27 July 2001 in Clarksville Tennessee. Earnie's entrance was not the greatest. Within the first few minutes of arriving home, his brother, Griffy, snapped at Earnie scaring the hell out of him. Earnie and Griffy became inseparable until his brothers untimely death in 2006. Earnie loved life to the very fullest. He was nicknamed Dyson because of his love for inhaling of his food during his breakfast and supper. Earnie loved his Daddy, never wanting to loose sight of him. During the summer months, while his Daddy was mowing the lawn, Earnie would never leave his Dad alone. He wanted to remain with him, even when the temperature exceeded 100 degrees. When Carl suffered with a bout of kidney stones, Earnie would not leave his side for 3 days. Loyalty and dedication like this could not go un rewarded.
Earnie also had a sister named Oreo. She was about 3 years old when Earnie came to live with us. She took very good care of Earnie. Earnie also strongly admired his older brother named Griffy. Griffy and Earnie would sit by the backdoor staring out into the yard. When it was time to go out, Griffy and Earnie would race to see wich one could get to the back corner of the yard first. We think that Earnie would let Griffy win. Griffy was his by a car before we got him and could only run on 3 legs but could really run. When we would knock on the window, both dogs would hear it and run, as fast as they could, to the house for a treat. After Griffy died, Earnie taught this procedure to his new brother Graham.
Earnie became very withdrawn after Griffy died. For many months, he pretty much stayed to himself or with his Dad. Oreo tried to coach him out of his shell but he refused to budge. His new brother Graham arrived and Earnie started to come around, but Graham was a bully. Earnie and Graham tolerated each other but his dad and Oreo became Earnie's real heroes. Earnie was absolutely miserable when he did not have sight of his dad. When his dad would come home Earnie wanted to be the first to see him and greet him. Earnie was heartbroken if Dad said something to the other dogs before him.
Earnie became close with his older sister named Oreo. Oreo did not see well and was deaf. Earnie knew this and allowed his sister to always go out and come into the house first. Earnie would never sleep in Oreo's bed until after she passed away. After Oreo passed on 3 September 2014, Earnie would search the house for Oreo. When he went outside, you could always find him sniffing around Oreo's grave. It seems as though he would spend hours out there. It was about this time that Earnie and Graham became very close. It was not uncommon to see these two sitting at the front door watching the world go by.
On December 5th 2014, Earnie only ate part of his breakfast. His dad noticed this, but overlooked this because Earnie had just started a new dog food. About an hour later, Earnie's dad noticed him wobbling at the back door while waiting for someone to open it. His dad became very concerned and called Earnie's doctor. Earnie got a quick bath and the vet arrived at the house about 10:30 am. Blood was drawn, and Earnie was examined. Nothing was found to be wrong with Earnie. Earnie and his dad ran around the yard with the doctor watching and no problems were seen. All thought that maybe the new dog food was to blame. Earnie came into the house and went to his bed next to where his dad was sitting.
Earnie awoke around 2 pm and he and his dad went outside. Earnie became sick and started vomiting. His dad called the vet and left as message and in about 30 minutes the vet called back. By now, Earnie was not able to walk straight and could barely stand up. The vet returned and Earnie was taken into the Vets mobile office.
The doctor examined Earnie and noted the rapid vertical and horizontal movement of Earnie's eyes. During the whole time the doctor examined Earnie, Earnie did not take his eyes of his dad who was sitting away from him. As sick as he was, he did not want to loose site of his dad.
Finally the decision was made and at 3 pm, Earnie passed away. Earnie is buried next to his sister Oreo,
Thank you for your love and loyalty Earnie. We love and miss you so very very much!
